The tragic loss of Luna’s little stillborn foal, Lia... 😓🙏🏼

Unfortunately we need to let you know that our dear pregnant mummy Luna very sadly gave birth to a little stillborn foal - we named her Lia. Poor Luna was heartbroken and bereft. We gave her some time with the little one to come to terms with her loss to help her find her own way to accept.
Donkeys, like all animals can accept death, as long as they can understand that their companion, or their foal, has gone.
It is extremely sad; we had so been looking forward to having a little baby running around and being able to tell her wonderful story, but it wasn’t to be. Luna and Leo have really been remarkable in how they have helped console each other and Luna, despite such a loss, is doing very well. We were so concerned that her stress level would cause illness particularly as we had only just rescued her and Leo and who knows what they had endured before they came to our sanctuary. So many changes for her to try to cope with and then losing her little foal… But thankfully she is recovering extremely well.

Thank you to those who support our work and help us continue to look after our donkeys, horses and other animals. We are yet again at a stage where our monthly income is dangerously low and we are desperately seeking help to secure the future for our donkeys and horses. To continue from month to month in this situation is not a solution and we somehow need to put a contingency plan in place.
